Engineering India's Cleanest Biogas Infrastructure

Multi-Stage Thermophilic Anaerobic Digestion, VSA pressure-swing enrichment, and a SATAT-aligned supply chain — built for industrial-grade reliability and measurable environmental impact.

Core Process

Multi-Stage Thermophilic Anaerobic Digestion

Our proprietary MSTAD process operates at 52–55 °C across four sequential reactor stages, maximising volatile solids destruction and biogas yield from mixed agri-industrial feedstocks.

01

Feedstock Pre-treatment

Incoming biomass — press mud, agri-residue, food waste — is shredded, homogenised, and slurried to 8–12 % total solids. Tramp metal and inert material are removed via trommel screening.

8–12 % TSFeed slurry concentration
02

Hydrolysis & Acidogenesis

Stage-1 CSTR reactor at 52 °C breaks complex polymers (cellulose, hemicellulose, proteins) into soluble monomers and volatile fatty acids. HRT: 3–5 days.

52 °CThermophilic operating temp
03

Acetogenesis & Methanogenesis

Stages 2–4 operate as plug-flow digesters with internal recirculation. Acetogenic and methanogenic consortia convert VFAs to CH₄ and CO₂. Biogas yield: 0.45–0.55 m³/kg VS destroyed.

0.50 m³/kg VSAverage biogas yield
04

Digestate Separation

Effluent passes through a screw-press separator. Solid fraction (25–30 % DM) is composted into FOM/PROM. Liquid fraction is treated and recycled as process water, achieving near-zero liquid discharge.

Gas Upgrading

VSA Pressure-Swing Enrichment

Raw biogas (55–65 % CH₄) is upgraded to CBG meeting IS 16087:2023 specifications using Vacuum Swing Adsorption — the most energy-efficient upgrading technology at our scale.

1

H₂S & Moisture Removal

Iron-oxide scrubber + silica-gel desiccant columns reduce H₂S to < 5 ppm and dew point to −40 °C before the VSA beds.

2

CO₂ Adsorption (VSA Beds)

Zeolite 13X molecular sieve beds selectively adsorb CO₂ under near-atmospheric pressure. Vacuum regeneration at 0.05–0.1 bar desorbs CO₂ for optional utilisation.

3

CH₄ Polishing

Product gas passes through a final activated-carbon guard bed, achieving CH₄ ≥ 96 %, CO₂ ≤ 3 %, O₂ ≤ 0.5 % — fully compliant with IS 16087:2023.

4

Compression & Cascade Filling

CBG is compressed to 200 bar via a 4-stage reciprocating compressor and dispensed via priority/sequential cascade panels into Type-1 and Type-4 cylinders.

National Programme

SATAT National Programme Alignment

Shaw AgriVolt Gas is structured to operate as a SATAT-registered Compressed Biogas producer, supplying directly to Oil Marketing Company (OMC) offtake networks.

1

OMC Offtake Agreement

CBG produced at our Howrah plant is eligible for purchase by Indian Oil, BPCL, and HPCL under the SATAT scheme at notified prices, providing a sovereign-backed revenue floor.

2

Letter of Intent (LOI) Framework

We operate under a binding LOI with an OMC, securing minimum offtake volumes and enabling long-term capacity planning and project financing.

3

MNRE & MoPNG Compliance

Plant design, safety systems, and gas quality protocols conform to MNRE guidelines for biogas plants and MoPNG's CBG technical standards, ensuring uninterrupted regulatory clearance.

4

Priority Sector Financing

SATAT registration unlocks priority-sector lending from NABARD, SIDBI, and scheduled commercial banks, reducing our cost of capital and enabling competitive CBG pricing.

SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) is a Government of India initiative under MoPNG targeting 15 MMT/year of CBG production by 2030 from 5,000+ plants. Shaw AgriVolt Gas is positioned as an early-mover SATAT producer in West Bengal, benefiting from first-mover OMC relationships and state-level biomass aggregation networks.
